Career Highlights:

  • Libby Lenton won three awards at the 2005 Australian Swimmer of the Year Awards in Sydney - short course, female sprint freestyler and middle distance swimmer of the year.
  • Libby Lenton set a new 200 metres freestyle short course world record at the FINA World Cup meet at the Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre.
    Lenton's time of 1 minute and 53.29 seconds was 0.75 seconds better than the previous mark of 1:54.04 set by Lindsay Benko of the United States at the 2002 world championships in Moscow. Lenton then backed up her 200m victory by setting a Commonwealth record in the final of the 50m freestyle.
  • Libby Lenton broke the world 100m freestyle record for the second time in 24 hours at the national short-course championships in Melbourne in August 2005. In her 16th race in little more than two weeks, she brought down her day-old world mark by 0.21 seconds, to 51.70 seconds. In the semi-finals the previous night Lenton became the first woman to break 52 seconds for the distance (51.91 seconds). Griffith congratulates her on this outstanding achievement.
  • Lisbeth made her international debut at the ‘Duel in the Pool” meet in Indianopolis breaking the Australian record for the 50 metre freestyle.
  • Broke the world record for the 100 metre freestyle at the 2004 Telstra Olympic Team trials.
